The signs you should not miss that one of your employee is about to "Burn Out"

Let’s face it there are unmistakable signs that your employee is in mental distress and on the edge of burnout.

The truth is, only leaders who genuinely care about their teams’ wellbeing can learn to see them and act before it’s too late. Prevention begins with attention, and attention begins with empathy.

There are always cues that something deeper is unfolding beneath the surface:

  • Missed deadlines begin to pile up.

  • Attendance in meetings becomes irregular.

  • Engagement with collaborators fades.

  • Absenteeism increases.

  • The quality of work declines.

  • Reactions become tense, impatient, or easily triggered.

  • Each of these signs is a quiet call for help. Ignoring them does not make them disappear it only amplifies the problem.

Yet many companies prefer to turn a blind eye, hoping the situation will fix itself. It never does. Mental distress is a ticking bomb. If it doesn’t explode through burnout, it will manifest eventually through a loss of motivation, a sudden resignation, or worse, a health emergency at work.

Beyond the damage to your company’s performance or reputation, burnout represents something far more human. It means that one of your collaborators, someone who has been giving their energy and creativity to your shared vision, is silently struggling.

A company is not a building or a brand. It is a collective dream, carried forward by the commitment of people who believe in it. Executives and leaders must never lose their sense of humanity in pursuit of growth. Without the humans behind the work, there is no success, no innovation, and no lasting purpose.

Taking care of your people is not an act of generosity. It is an act of intelligence and more importantly, of integrity.
